Dr. Seuss Day

     This past weekend the kiddos and I celebrated Dr. Suess Day (Theodor Seuss Geisel's Birthday)  and National Read Across America Day with lots of fun Dr. Seuss inspired treats, books, and crafts.

     

I found most of these whimsical surprises at last year and 

kept them hidden in mommy's secret stash.

I had so much fun making a special Dr. Seuss inspired Breakfast for the kiddos!

Later that day the kiddos had a little snack and watched The Lorax

(Well, Liam saw the whole thing, Kinley sat down for a whopping 5 minutes

then was up and going going again!)

I also made these cute "Green Eggs & Ham" snacks!

At the end of the day, we all had a great time.  It was so much fun celebrating a true writing genius!

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss and enjoy sharing his stories with my kiddos!

• In 1960, Bennett Cerf, Seuss’ editor, bet Seuss he couldn’t write a book using only 50 words. The resulting story was ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ which uses exactly 50 words. • Dr. Seuss's books were more than morality tales for kids, they were outlets for Geisel to comment on social issues. "The Lorax" was about environmental conservation, "The Sneetches" tackled racism, "Horton Hears a Who" was anti-isolationist, "The Butter Battle Book" commented on the arms race and "Yertle the Turtle" was inspired by Hitler's rise to power.      In honor of Dr. Suess' birthday I decided to throw a little get together where we could enjoy some fun Dr. Suess inspired edibles and some crafts for the kiddos. After our little party we headed over to the base community center where they were hosting a Who-Ville Picnic and showing "Horton Hears a Who."  We had so much fun celebrating such a great children's author...here's some of the pictures!
